TWO teams will be representing Atlanta at the Charleston, SC "Not-so-hard-on-your-body" tournament. Training will commence this weekend. We are very excited to take our rookies to their first tournament as well as to see how far our experienced players have come since February. Keep an eye out for more updates.

Swordfish UWH will be hosting its second clinic, this time an advanced clinic. The clinic will be lead by Yori Hyunh, from Club Puck, San Jose, and will focus on formations, tactics, and player positioning. Cost is $25/person, which includes entry fee, pool time (12:00-7:30 PM), USOA fee and banquet afterwards. $5 extra will grant unlimited drinks. Crash space available on a first come first served basis.

October 3, 2009

Swordfish UWH was represented by 4 players (Andrei Savu, Brian Forsyth, Jorge Millan and Niklas Harder) at GMU's Rookie Potluck tournament in Fairfax, VA. They were split up among 4 of the 5 teams that were made up of rookies as well as experienced players from GMU, Sandwich H.S., DC, and of course Atlanta. The final rankings of the teams with Atlanta players we as follows: Niklas 1st, Andrei 2nd, Brian 4th, and Jorge 5th. All the teams did a fantastic job, and Jorge even won the Ironman award, which comes as no surprise to those who know his training regiment. For more info on the tournament check out Andrei's account of the event.

We'll be off to Gainsville, Florida, in order to practice with our favourite club, UF! A full day of games and recording games, plus a night of analysis and self-improvement! It doesn't get any better!

So we got rained out of our practice! Bummer!! But we still got to chat and watch vids and learned some drills! We'll just have to do this again.... soon!

July 19, 2009

We continued our effort to get new recruits this Sunday at the latest FASET meeting here on the Georgia Tech campus. Our list of emails is getting very long now. I hope we'll have at least 10-15% of the people that signed up show up, and then we'll already be in trouble in terms of providing equipment. However, it's a good sign that there is interest, and we will continue to try to attract more freshman to build a solid base for this club to thrive!

July 18-19, 2009

We are wishing Brian Forsyth the best of luck at the US Men's Elite team tryouts! No matter the outcome, you are still our champ, Champ! Just think that Brian only started playing in March, and then he's already trying out for the Elite team. That's right, that's the kind of potential that the Swordfish Underwater Hockey club has to offer!

June 26-28, 2009

After many weeks of anxious anticipation, Nationals finally arrived. After the first tournament, we upped our sights to actually winning a match. Afterall, we proved that we can score at GMU, so we can't get any worse, right? YEP! Not only did we score goals, AND win a game, but in fact we won 3!!!! What's more is that we even managed to finish 21/23, meaning we were the first team composed of rookies that got off the bottom of the list! Swordfish, I am extremely proud of you all! We fought like true champions! And just imagine where we'll be in 2 years! That's right, I think our next goal should be to place in the top half at the next tournament. We can do it! For more info on how we did, check out this longer summary of Nationals!

Also keep your eyes and ears peeled for more info regarding Nicole's nomination to join the governing board for the US UWH Association! Yep, that's right, people have noticed the incredible amount of hard work that she has put into this team. In less than a year, she has managed to host a clinic, get an article out, go to a tournament, go to NATIONALS, and continues to plan more and more for us! So watch for news of when and where to vote, and make sure you vote for her, because she sure as hell earned it!

April 4-5, 2009

We have just recently come back from our very first tournament in Fairfax, VA, hosted by the George Mason University club. We finished dead last, but had a blast. Our original goal for the competition was to score a single goal. We managed to score 6!!! Also, we gave UMass a run for their money in the last game, when we played our hearts out! Great job Swordfish!

Next, we are off to Nationals!!! No, wait, I lie. First we train until we bleed, or rather, more appropriately in this case, until we cramp up and drown. THEN we're off to Nationals!

Look out US UWH! You have a new challenger to watch for! The Swordfish!!!

February 20, 2009

SUWH has been featured in the Georgia Tech newspaper "The Technique". We had a two page article with some pictures and explanations published, and this definately helped our club gain some more members, as well as start spreading the word!

February 1, 2009

SUWH has just hosted its very first event: a clinic. We were lucky to have US Elite Men's team player David Kennedy come down from Washington, DC to teach us what UWH is all about. Let just say that we all learned a LOT! Muchas gracias to Greg, Jono, Kaylen, Ben and Quirssa for joining us and thus being a part of the ignition of our spark! We are all addicted now that we finally had a real 6 vs. 6 game. It was tough beginnings, but we're on our way. What next?
